Melbourne under curfew, a city devoid of life. A view of a tram stop on Collins Street during COVID-19 in Melbourne, Australia. Premier Daniel Andrews announced yesterday his plans to extend Victoria's State of Emergency for another 12 months giving his government and his Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, unprecedented powers as well as the ability to curtail democratic checks and balances. It comes as case numbers continue to fall. Responsibility for the current wave the State is experiencing rests solely on the Andrews Governments shoulders and some are saying that if they cannot manage hotel quarantine effectively, handing them full and total power without accountability would be a fatal mistake. Victoria records another 149 cases overnight and a further 24 deaths, 21 in Aged Care.
